Feren OS is a Linux-based operating system that is primarily based on the Linux Kernel. Its primary goal is to create a unified user-friendly environment that anyone can use while also exposing the underlying advanced technologies. Feren OS's mission also includes creating an environment in which any application can fit and work with the OS while also working in perfect harmony with the other applications.[1]

Official editions[edit]

Feren OS is a desktop environment that includes both Feren's own dark theme and the Feren's own desktop.[2]

Feren developers make their own Feren OS Transfer Tool[3] which easily transfer data to Windows to Feren OS.

Features[edit]

Feren OS was previously built on top of Linux Mint, but with its most recent release, it has returned to its original upstream distro, Ubuntu. In a way, Feren OS takes Ubuntu and makes it more user-friendly. It accomplishes this by transforming it into a more ready-to-use desktop than the open-source Ubuntu, which is intended to appeal to a wide range of users.

Feren OS runs on a heavily customized KDE desktop environment that has been fine-tuned for ease of use. KDE is a highly customizable desktop environment that is often preferred by power users. Feren OS's creator has taken advantage of the adaptable desktop environment to make it more user-friendly for new Linux users.

The distro is jam-packed with apps. There's also Remmina a remote desktop client, and Krita a raster graphics editor, in addition to LibreOffice and VLC. The distro includes the Vivaldi web browser as well as some useful apps such as the Boot-Repair tool and Timeshift, a system restore utility that takes regular incremental snapshots of the file system.

The distro's pragmatic approach is demonstrated by the inclusion of the proprietary Vivaldi browser. Even if you don't want to use a closed-source browser, switching to one that is open-source is simple.

That's because the distro has forked Zorin's browser changer app, which is extremely useful (and completely newbie-proof). With a single click, you can install any of the other popular browsers, including Firefox, Chromium, Brave, Falkon, and even proprietary browsers like Opera, Chrome, and Edge.

Experienced users will appreciate the fact that the option to install Chromium will install Debian's version of the browser rather than Ubuntu's, which has ruffled some feathers in the community.[4]

History[edit]

Feren OS was created as a hobby by a young British student in 2014, with the first release in 2015. While the initial release was a complete failure to install, Feren OS received a new release in 2016, which was developed with the goal of improving Feren OS over time and addressed the major issues.[6]
