Ferratum Group (also known as Ferratum Oyj)[1] is a Finnish Financial technology company that specialises in providing microloans on mobile devices. Ferratum’s turnover in 2014 was 70.5 million euros and its profit amounted to 10.6 million euros. The company is listed on prime standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.[2]
As of April 2015 the company operated in 21 countries in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada and employed around 400 people.[3]
Ferratum was founded in 2005, by Jorma Jokela. The first mobile microloans from Ferratum were granted in Finland in May 2005. In 2006, the service was expanded into Sweden and Estonia, and had expanded to ten countries by 2008.[citation needed] In 2009–2013, the company’s turnover grew by an average of 40 per cent each year.[4] In 2012, Ferratum received an EU banking license, enabling the expansion of operations.[5] In may 2015, they started small business lending in Sweden.[1] In 2014, their revenue was 23 million euros.[6] In February 2015, Ferratum became the first Finnish company to be listed on the main list of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange; the issue raised 48 million euros and the selling price for the shares was 17 euros, valuing the company to be around 370 million euros.[7]
