History[edit]
finleap was founded in 2014 by Hendrik Krawinkel, Jan Beckers (CEO of the HitFox Group and chairman of FinLeap), and Ramin Niroumand and is headquartered in Berlin, Germany. Unlike well-known Silicon Valley accelerators like Y Combinator, finleap is known as a "company builder" and focuses exclusively on technology companies in B2B financial services. Notable companies that finleap built include Solarisbank, and Elinvar..[1][2][3][4] In addition, it has made a number of investments, including Penta.[5][6] Companies in finleap's portfolio are given space in its standalone office building.
Its portfolio companies provide a range of digital financial services, such as insurance brokerage (Clark), debt collection (PAIR Finance), and commercial banking (Solarisbank and Penta).
finleap has investment from Asian firms, including SBI Japan[7], and its portfolio companies have also had investments from China firms[8][9]
In 2017, finleap opened its first international office in Milan under the supervision of Marco Berini, GM of finleap connect Italy. The same year, it raised 39 million euro for its incubation program[10] [11] and raised 26.3 million euros for its incubated company, Solarisbank[12].
Most recently, it has expanded into Spain with Ignacio Garcia in Madrid and France with Nicolas Montes-Edwards in Paris.[13][14][15][16]
In 2019, the company it built, Pair Finance, reached profitability and raised 2 million euros in 2020 from investors like Zalando.[17]
Programs[edit]
Dr. Carolin Gabor, who joined finleap in May 2016 is the CEO of a finleap portfolio company, Joonko, founded fintexx, (previously named Fintech Ladies Europe) to connect women working in the tech and finance industry more visibility and networking opportunities.[18]
In 2020, finleap introduced Gesund Zusammen, a non-profit initiative bringing large online companies to support digital solutions to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Partner companies include N26, Bundesverband der deutschen Startups e.V., datenschutzexperte.de, GetYourGuide, Delivery Hero, Omio and others.[citation needed]
