FireAlpaca is a freeware raster graphics editor. with tools to create digital art, 2D animation, and comics. Developed by Japanese company PGN Inc. FireAlpaca SE is offered as a paid version on Steam with more features.[5]
History
In 2006 developer nattou.org released personal project mdiapp which FireAlpaca would later be built from.[6]
PGN Inc. was established on August 10, 2010.[7] as a split from parent company portalgraphics.net.[6]
November 10, 2011 is the earliest known date of FireAlpaca public to download.[1][2] Originally developed for Mac OS X and Windows[6] later released to Linux on November 7, 2023 as part of FireAlpaca's 12th Anniversary.[8]

Unlike other animation software, FireAlpaca does not have an animation timeline but rather utilizes each layer as a frame. Durring preview of the animation, the layers cycle sequentially at a user set frame rate.[10] Duplicating layers will show that frame for a longer period of time.[citation needed] The animation can be exported as a GIF, APNG, or an image sequence.[10]
FireAlpaca supports the following file formats: MDP, PNG, JPEG, BMP, PSD, ICO, GIF, and APNG.[11][12]
