Firelake is a Ukrainian melodic death metal band from Kyiv. The band was formed in 1997 by Oleh Yavorskyi (guitar), Oleksiy Akulshyn (guitar), and Andriy Salnikov (drums). Influenced by the popular "Swedish wave" of the time, Firelake's early compositions leaned towards classic melodic death metal. [1]

Biography

Having been exposed to the "Swedish wave" as youths, they were influenced by bands such as At the Gates, In Flames, and Dark Tranquillity.

After internal disagreements and production challenges, the band eventually developed its own melodic death metal style.

Songs included in video games

They composed several tracks featured on the soundtracks of the game S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (Dirge For The Planet, Fighting Unknown, Against The Ionized Odds), S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat (Live to Forget). These songs can be heard in-game on radios scattered throughout the maps and during the credits.

They also contributed a song, titled S.T.A.L.I.N., to the satirical video game "Stalin vs. Martians".
