The First Battle of Iasuií took place on May 2, 1868, between Brazilians and Paraguayans in the Chaco region of Paraguay during the Paraguayan War. On that occasion, Colonel Barros Falcão, leading a garrison of 2,500 soldiers, repelled a Paraguayan attack, suffering 137 casualties. The attackers lost 105 of their own.[1]
