On May 18, 2018, it was announced that Netflix had acquired a political comedy written by Tig Notaro and Stephanie Allynne called First Ladies. The film will be produced by Notaro, Allynne, Jennifer Aniston, and Gloria Sanchez Productions' Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Betsy Koch. Chris Henchy will executive produce the film.[1][2]

On May 18, 2018, Aniston and Notaro were casted as the leads.[1]
