Five Degrees (five°degrees) is a Dutch financial technology company producing digital banking software for banks and financial services providers.[1] The company’s products are used by retail, SME and private banks to create financial products that offer banking, savings and lending services.[2][3]

The company has offices in Amsterdam, Reykjavik and Lisbon.[4]

Clients of Five Degrees include ABN AMRO Prospery, Garanti Bank, Argenta, Van Lanschot, Brand New Day, BillPro and Credit Agricole.[5][6][7][8][9][10]

Company name[edit]

The company name “Five Degrees” was inspired by an Icelandic television series, Naeturvaktin.

History[edit]

The company was founded in 2009 by Martijn Hohmann, former Managing Director of Landsbanki in the Netherlands, Marianne Tijssen, former CEO Interfinance at ABN AMRO and Bjorn Holmthorsson, former CIO of Landsbanki in Luxembourg.[11]

In October 2010, Five Degrees launches as a software vendor with the first digital only, branchless bank in the Netherlands, Knab.[12]

Five Degrees was included in the FinTech50 2016 list of the 50 hottest Fintechs in Europe.[13]

Key investors in Five Degrees include the private equity investment companies Karmijn Kapitaal[14][15], Velocity Capital Private Equity[16], and 5Square[17].[18][19]

Products[edit]

The company’s core banking software product Matrix consists of Matrix mid and Matrix accounts.[20][21]

Matrix offers a Business Process Management module that enables flexible customization of the product to give automation and straight-through processing. Matrix provides a structure that allows multiple relationships between persons, business accounts, and banking products. Matrix is GDPR and PSD2-ready.[22]

Matrix is offered as a hosted software-as-a-service (SaaS) or as an on-premise licensed product.[23]
