Flag of Chișinău

The flag of Chișinău was developed by visual artists Gheorghe Vrabie and Eudochia Cojocaru-Vrabie and approved by the City Hall in the meeting of June 11 1998 (by the National Heraldic Commission, in the meeting of September 28, 1998).

The flag is a white rectangular cloth (1 m x 2 m), having in the middle a yellow (golden) belt with a twist made of three threads, over which, in the center of the cloth, the coat of arms is embroidered. The white streamer of the flag symbolizes the space of the "citadel", and the twisted belt, an element borrowed from the ornamentation of architectural monuments - the time in which the "citadel" evolves and develops: present, past and future, as well as the Trinity.

The dimensions of the Chișinău municipality flag, as a rule, are identical to the official dimensions of the national flag of Moldova. The flag of the municipality of Chișinău is the official symbol of the municipality's autonomy. It symbolizes the past, present and future of the city community, reflecting the principles of its democratic development, based on the desire for peace of the city's inhabitants, respect for historical and cultural traditions, local material and spiritual values.

The City Hall holds the exclusive rights to manufacture and sell all versions of the flag reproduction. The flag of the municipality of Chișinău is permanently flown on the buildings of the Chișinău City Hall, the Chișinău Municipal Council, the sector offices and the headquarters of the local public authorities subordinated to the Chișinău Municipality. The flag of the municipality is hoisted during the official holidays, of the patron saint of the city, during ceremonies or solemnities organized by the local authorities, simultaneously with the national flag of the Republic of Moldova. The flag of the municipality will be lowered in mourning, or a black ribbon will be tied to the tip of the lance, which will be folded in two, with the ends hanging freely down. The length of the ribbon must be equal to the length of the flag cloth.
