Florian Gadsby is a British ceramicist, online personality and YouTuber who is based in London, United Kingdom.
Education and Apprenticeships[edit]
Gadsby was born in 1992 in Norfolk. Thereafter he had a Waldorf education.[1] and completed a work-placement at the Leach Pottery.[2] After graduating Gadsby then trained on the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland's Ceramic Skills and Design Course.[3] In 2014 Gadsby began a three year apprenticeship with soda-firing potter, Lisa Hammond MBE, at her studio Maze Hill Pottery in Greenwich, London.[4]. Between 2017 to 2018, Gadsby spent six months in Mashiko, Japan, training with master potter Ken Matsuzaki.[5] In 2019 Florian setup his own studio in High Barnet, London[6].
Social Media and Appearances[edit]
Gadsby has extensively documented his practice on social media since he started his apprenticeship with Lisa Hammond in 2014.[7] Through which, "Gadsby has become a poster boy for the millennial maker movement." [8]
Florian has appeared as a guest judge on the Channel 4's television program, The Great Pottery Throw Down[9]
Awards[edit]
In 2019 Gadsby was named in the Evening Standard's 'The Progress 1000: London's most influential people'.[10]
