Florin Moldovan (born April 25, 1977 in Sighişoara, Romania), professionally known as Naomi or Naomy, is a Romanian recording artist, songwriter, and actress. She gained attention when she entered the Romanian preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with her song "Dacă tu iubeşti", finishing in 10th place with 3 points. Moldovan holds a national record for awards at inter-county and national light music festivals in Romania, with 75 awards in 103 appearances, confirmed by Radio România Actualități in 1998 by Andrei Titus.

Early life

Moldovan was born male on April 25, 1977, in Sighişoara, Romania. She grew up in an orphanage in Ludus until the age of 15, where she also completed her secondary education. Moldovan is of Romani ethnicity. [2] Three days after her birth, she was abandoned. [3] She displayed a strong interest in music from a young age. Later, she moved from Ludus to Târgu Mureș and enrolled in the Popular Arts School's singing section, passing the practical exam with a perfect score. She then studied at the school for two years. In 1992, she moved to Bucharest, attending the Popular Arts Schools (light music singing section) and the Palatul Național al Copiilor school.

Years later, Moldovan transitioned to presenting as a woman, stating she felt this way from the age of 7. [3]

Career

In 2014, Moldovan participated in the Romanian preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the song "Dacă tu iubeşti", written by Rareş Borcea and composed by Jimi Laco.[4] The song placed 10th out of 12 entries, scoring 3 points. [5] The following year, she faced controversy after failing to advance in the national preselection for Eurovision 2015, reportedly due to her frequent collaborator, Mădălin Voicu, not being on the jury. [6] In late 2015, Moldovan announced plans to submit her songs "What's Going On" and "Să-ți spun ce simt pentru noi" to preselection shows in Italy, Switzerland, Norway, and Sweden for Eurovision 2016.[7][8][9] "Să-ți spun ce simt pentru noi" was written by Moldovan and produced by Marius Constantin. In February 2015, Moldovan attempted suicide by taking painkillers. In a subsequent interview with the Romanian newspaper Cancan, she stated: "I cried all night and couldn't sleep. I felt like a small child. Alone, it is hard to manage my emotions and grief, so I swallowed painkiller pills. I'm lucky to still be alive. I know I could have died last night. I'm very confused. If I still have the strength, I will decide these days if I will end my life so no one can further judge me, or if I will continue my life and face the criticism."[14]
