The Forches estate is a housing estate in Barnstaple, North Devon, England consisting of Gould Road, Berry Road, Greenbank Road, Willshere Road, Forches Avenue, John Gay Road, Gribble Close, Gould Close, Elliot Close, Lilac Way, Wilkey Close, Brewer Road, John Gay Close, Bingham Crescent, Hawley Manor and Hawley Close.[1]
History
The Forches estate was first built in 1948 as a Post-War slum re-homing estate. The houses were Cornish Unit Houses. The estate has since been redeveloped and the council owned Cornish unit Houses have been demolished and replaced, but privately owned Cornish Unit Houses have been bricked around for structural support.
