Forma Lms is a free, open-source, web-based e-learning platform (Learning Management System - LMS), used to manage and deliver online training courses. The project is maintained by a network of companies that support its development and is focused on corporate training needs rather than on academic needs.
History
FORMA is based on the last open source version of the LMS platform Docebo (Docebo 405 Community Edition). The program was originally developed by the Italian Docebo Srl and released under a GPL V. 2.0 license with no licensing costs. Docebo itself was an evolution of the previous “Spaghettilearning”, created in 2003 by the same development team. Since February 2012, Docebo switched its business model to a commercial cloud distribution, pointing to a different market sector. The original open source version and its community were left abandoned, as were hundreds of companies that adopted this software all over the world.
A group of partner companies launched a new community to collect the experiences of other Docebo users and keep the project alive. They worked hard to create a new identity and a new development workflow for the software, and by October 2013 managed to release a new version of the original platform, including a new template and more than 70 changes in new functionalities and bug fixes, coming both from the community and from the partners' experience.
Project
FORMA LMS is maintained and developed by a core group of Italian companies committed to the project: Elearnit, Joint Technologies Srl, Purple Network Srl. These companies are organized as an informal network that supports the users' community and keeps evolving the software based on their stakeholders' needs.
