Fortnite: Chapter 2 Season 2, officially titled "Chapter 2: Top Secret," or "Chapter 2: Spies," is the twelfth season of the video game Fortnite Battle Royale; it ran from February 20 to June 16, 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Background and gameplay
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 began on February 20, 2020, following an extended first season (Chapter 2 Season 1).[1][2][3] The gameplay featured a spy and undercover theme featuring secret agent hideouts, NPC bosses, and a war between the Ghost and Shadow factions.[4][5]
The season introduced AI enemies called "bosses" or "agents." There were a total of 5 main bosses, with the most notable ones being Midas, Brutus, Meowscles, TNTina, and Skye.[6][7] There was also a collab with Marvel Studios that brought Deadpool as a boss and playable character.[8]
Live concerts and events
Towards the end of the season in April of 2020, American rapper Travis Scott collaborated with Epic Games for a midseason concert and playable character.[9] The concert saw an overall good amount of reception from fans, with some even noting that "it was the best concert since the Fortnite Marshmello concert."[10][11] On June 16, 2020, the season officially came to an end with the "Device event," marking the beginning of Chapter 2 Season 3.[12]
Reception
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 was named "one of the best seasons of Fortnite ever" by the community and many others.[13] Although it also faced criticism due to delays to the end of the season, primarily because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the shift to remote work for the development team.[14][15]
