The Forum of Young Parliamentarians is a permanent body of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) dedicated to encouraging youth participation in parliaments and the IPU.[1][2]

It was established in 2013 as a permanent body of the IPU, to encourage the active participation of young people in parliaments and within the IPU.[3][4][5]

The Forum meets at each IPU Assembly and debates subject items placed on the Assembly agenda by the IPU from a youth perspective, from which it makes recommendations to Committees, Groups and the Governing Council. It also debates other youth-related issues and reports back on them to the Governing Council.[6][7]

The Forum also works with other international institutions to advocate for young people around the globe.[8]

The Forum is steered by the Board of the Forum of Young Parliamentarians.

Board of the Forum of Young Parliamentarians[edit]

The Board of the Forum of Young Parliamentarians represents the Forum and conducts its work.

The Board is composed of 12 people – one man and one woman from each of IPU’s six geopolitical groups.[9]

Members of the Board elect the President of the Forum of Young Parliamentarians. Both the Board and the President of the Forum are re-elected every two years.[6]
