Francesco Quaranta (born October 20, 1967, Milan) is an Italian classical oboist

Biography[edit]

He studied at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi of Milan under the guidance of Sergio Crozzoli where he graduated with full marks cum laude. Afterwards he continued to improve with Hans-Jörg Schellenberger, Maurice Bourgue, Giorgio Nespoli, Bruno De Rosa, he studied a year at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with Günter Passin and two years at the "Musik-Akademie der Stadt" in Basel with Omar Zoboli. He began as soloist in 1986 with the Oboe concert of R.Strauss with the RAI Symphony Orchestra of Milan directed by Daniele Gatti, and in the summer of 1989, following an audition, he was called by the German Schleswig Holstein Jugend Orchester to play the First and Second Brandeburg Concert of JSBach under the direction of Leonard Bernstein. In September 2000 he was invited on tour in Northern Europe and Italy, from Kremerata Baltica by Gidon Kremer and in January 2002 he was invited by the Berliner Philharmoniker for the first oboe solo competition. [3]

In 2005 he made his debut at the Lincoln Center in New York, in Vienna at the Konzerthaus and in Berlin at the Berliner Philharmoniker Chamber Music Hall. [4]

From 2006 to 2008 he was President of the Cantelli Orchestra of Milan and from 2008 he is principal Oboe of the I Pomeriggi Musicali Orchestra of Milan [3]
