Frank Polo

Frank Polo Sr. is a Cuban-American political figure and community advocate based in Florida. He has been involved in Republican politics and public service since the 2010s, running for various public offices and engaging in community assistance programs. In 2024, he was elected as a Republican committeeman in Miami-Dade County.

Early life and education

Frank Polo Sr. was born in Camagüey, Cuba, and raised in Ciego de Ávila. In 1994, at the age of 22, he fled Cuba on a makeshift raft, seeking political asylum in the United States. He was detained at Guantanamo Bay before ultimately being admitted to the U.S. and settling in Miami, Florida.[1]

Polo worked various jobs including as a busboy and bartender before pursuing a career in information technology. He later studied business administration at Miami Dade College and attended St. Thomas University School of Law.[2]

Public service and community work

While in law school, Polo participated in the Internal Revenue Service's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, helping low-income families prepare their tax returns.[2]

He has also been involved in charitable efforts, including food distribution during the COVID-19 pandemic, and hurricane relief support efforts in Florida.

Political career

In 2018, Polo filed to challenge incumbent Republican Daniel Perez in the primary for Florida House of Representatives District 116, although he was later disqualified.[3]

In 2022, he ran in the Republican primary for Florida’s 27th Congressional District, but lost the nomination to incumbent Maria Elvira Salazar.[4]

In 2024, Polo was elected as a Republican committeeman in Miami-Dade County, Florida.[5]

Personal life

Polo is married and has twin children. He is actively involved in his local community and children’s education.[2]
