Frankies Bikinis is an American apparel and swimwear brand founded in 2012 in Malibu, California, by designer Francesca Aiello and her mother, Mimi Aiello.[1] Known for its skimpy, high-cut bikinis and its celebrity collaborations, the brand began as an Instagram-based business and has since grown from swimwear into apparel, swim and accessories.[2]
History
Frankies Bikinis was founded in 2012 by then 17-year-old Francesca Aiello and her mother, Mimi Aiello. Raised in Malibu, California, Francesca Aiello began making and selling swimwear that she promoted through Instagram; the brand expanded from social-media sales to an e-commerce site and later to wholesale accounts and pop-up shops. In its early years, the Aiellos sourced fabrics and worked with sample-makers and factories in the Los Angeles area.[1] By 2015, the brand's Instagram account had grown to nearly half a million followers, and a profile in Mic that year described Aiello as the youngest designer to have shown at Miami Swim Week.[1] Early visibility was aided by models and celebrities including Kylie Jenner and Bella Hadid.[2]
Beginning in 2019, the brand expanded beyond swimwear into additional categories, including ready-to-wear, accessories, activewear, footwear and beauty.[2][3] A 12-piece activewear line launched in December 2021.[4] In March 2022, Victoria's Secret & Co. acquired a minority stake in the company for $18 million.[5][6]
Francesca Aiello serves as the company's founder and chief creative officer, and Mimi Aiello as its president and co-founder.[7] In 2022, Francesca Aiello was named in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in the retail and e-commerce category.[8]
Products and design
Frankies Bikinis is known for skimpy, high-cut and cheeky bikinis, with designs characterized by micro tops and high-cut bottoms.[2] Aiello has said that "skimpy bikinis aren't a trend, they're a lifestyle".[2] The Business of Fashion has described the company as a self-styled luxury swimwear label, with bikini pieces retailing upward of $125.[7] The brand's swimwear has been worn by celebrities including Dua Lipa and Sabrina Carpenter.[2]
Victoria's Secret investment
On March 25, 2022, Victoria's Secret & Co. announced that it had acquired a minority stake in Frankies Bikinis for $18 million.[5][7] Under the agreement, the Aiellos and the company's leadership continued to operate the brand independently, and the partnership included co-branded collections with Victoria's Secret PINK.[6] Victoria's Secret chief executive Martin Waters described the investment as part of an effort to "expand partnerships with culturally relevant brands founded by women entrepreneurs".[9] At the time of the deal, the company said its sales had grown at a compound annual rate of about 70 percent over the previous five years; no ownership percentage was publicly disclosed.[9]
Retail
The brand opened its first physical location, a pop-up shop in Montauk, New York, in the summer of 2021.[10] In August 2024, Frankies Bikinis opened its flagship store, an approximately 900-square-foot space at Cross Creek Ranch in Malibu, California.[11] The company has since opened additional locations, including its first mid-Atlantic store, in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C., in 2026.[12] Frankies Bikinis products and co-branded collections are also sold through Victoria's Secret and its PINK brand.[6]

Frankies Bikinis has released collaborative collections with celebrities and models, including:
- Sofia Richie Grainge (2019), a limited-edition swimwear capsule collection[13]
- Hailee Steinfeld (2021), a 1970s-inspired swimwear and apparel collection[14]
- Naomi Osaka (2021), the tennis player's first swimwear collaboration[15]
- Gigi Hadid (2022), a 98-piece collection that introduced the brand's first childrenswear[16]
- Sydney Sweeney (2023), a capsule collection titled "Love Letters"[17]
- Pamela Anderson (2023), the actress's first swimwear collection, which included a recreation of the red one-piece swimsuit Anderson wore on Baywatch[18]
- Bella Hadid (2025), a 108-piece western-themed collection[19]
- Jennie of Blackpink (2026), a co-designed swimwear and ready-to-wear collection[20]
The brand has also collaborated with the streetwear label Kith (2019),[21] the activewear brand Alo Yoga (2021),[22] the fashion label Réalisation Par (2025),[23] and Khy, the label founded by Kylie Jenner (2025 and 2026).[24]
