Frederick Neame

Frederick Neame, JP (29 May 1847 – DOD) was a farmer and land agent in Kent.

Early years

Neame was born in Selling, Kent on 29 May 1847, to Frederick and Mary (née Tassell), as one of ten children.

Career

Neame took his seat as a magistrate for the first time on 4 November 1915 at Faversham County Police Court.[1]

Family

Neame married Kathleen Stunt (of Higham) on DATE. They had six children: Frederick Ivo of Grove House, Selling; Margaret; Major Geoffrey Neame (killed in action in France 1918); Sir Thomas Neame of Colkins, Faversham; Humphrey; and Lieutenant Colonel Sir Philip Neame, VC

Neame lived in Luton House, Selling.

Neame died in Selling, Kent on 23 May 1932, at the age of 84. He was succeeded by his wife who died in 1935.

The farm was worked on by the Neame family for over 150 years. In 1864, the Neame family went into partnership with the Faversham brewery, now known as Shepherd Neame. His father, Frederick Neame, was also a land agent for Earl Sondes and served in the East Kent Yeomanry from 1865 to 1878. In 1870 he started his own flock of Kent/Romney Marsh sheep and in 18 years received 218 awards. Philip’s mother was Kathleen, née Stunt. She was Frederick's cousin and they married on 20 January 1880 at St Mary's, Higham, Rochester, Kent. Frederick's brother-in-law conducted the ceremony. Philip had four brothers and a sister. One of his brothers, Geoffrey, would be killed in the Great War."
