The Freedom Party of British Columbia is a minor political party in British Columbia, Canada.
It is not related to the previous Freedom Party of British Columbia, which was registered between 2001 and 2009.
History[edit]
The Freedom Party was founded on January 9, 2023, by Amrit Birring and Jay Em.[2][3] Birring was the People's Party of Canada candidate for Fleetwood—Port Kells in the 2021 Canadian federal election, receiving 2.7% of the vote. In 2022, he ran for mayor of Surrey with the People's Council Surrey and got 1.9%.
The party made headlines in March 2023 for holding protests in Surrey against the SOGI (sexual orientation and gender identity) curriculum being used in schools.[4][5] In June 2023, party leader Amrit Birring organized a group of people to disrupt a Surrey school board meeting.[6]
On September 20, 2023, during the 1 Million March 4 Children in the wake of the parental rights movement, Birring led a group of people protesting SOGI and spoke to a crowd during the event in Surrey.[7]
