Freedx is a centralized cryptocurrency exchange founded in 2023. The company is licensed as a Digital Asset Service Provider (DASP) and Bitcoin Service Provider in El Salvador.[1][2]

History

Freedx was founded in 2023.[3] The name "Freedx" is inspired by the economist and philosopher Friedrich Hayek, a proponent of free markets and decentralized economic systems, reflecting the company's ethos of a decentralized economy. The "x" stands for "exchange."[4]

The company was incorporated in August 2024.[5][6][7][8]

In October 2024, Freedx received a BTC License from El Salvador’s Central Bank (BCR), authorizing the provision of services specifically related to Bitcoin, such as custody, exchange, digital wallet, and payment processing.[9]

On January 29, 2025, Freedx secured $50 million in funding to enhance its platform and expand globally.[10][11][12]

In March 2025, the company received a Digital Asset Service Provider (DASP) license from the National Commission of Digital Assets of El Salvador (CNAD), authorizing the provision of services with digital assets other than Bitcoin.[13]

On March 11, 2025, Freedx was granted a DASP license by the Comisión Nacional de Activos Digitales (CNAD).[14][15]

From April 8 to 10, Freedx attended Paris Blockchain Week 2025 at the Carrousel du Louvre. The company sponsored an exclusive VIP dinner at the Pyramide du Louvre and participated in panel discussions on the main stage.[16][17]

On April 29, 2025, Freedx sponsored and participated in the El Salvador Digital Assets Summit held at the Hilton Hotel in San Salvador.[18][19]
