Freestyle wrestling techniques

Freestyle wrestling is a Martial art and Olympic sport. Techniques of freestyle wrestling are broadly divided in to Neutral Wrestling(Clinch holds and Takedowns), Top Wrestling, and Bottom Wrestling.

Techniques[edit]

Neutral

Clinch Holds

  • Control tie's are grappling clinch holds that control your opponent. Can Be Targeted at the Wrist, Bicep, Elbow or Collar(neck)of your opponent. If you preform a Collar Tie over your opponents Collar tie, you hold an Overtie. A Russian tie is when you have two arms on your opponents one arm.


  • Hooks are grappling Clinch holds that control your opponents armpits. You can control under the armpit(Underhook), over the armpit(Overhook) or both(Over-Under).


  • Body Lock is a grappling clinch hold and stand-up grappling position where the arms are wrapped around the opponent, either around the opponent's chest, midsection, or thighs, sometimes with one or both of the opponent's arms pinned to the opponent's body.

Takedowns

  • Takedowns are technique that involves off-balancing an opponent and bringing him or her to the ground with the attacker landing on top. Some common takedowns include the Single Leg, Double Leg Knee Pick, Snapdown and Arm Drag. Trips and Throws are separate, but have similar goals.


  • Trip is a technique in which the combatant uses his or her own leg(s) to off-balance an opponent, hence causing the opponent to fall to the ground.Variations include the Outside Trip and the Inside Trip



Top Wrestling

  • Top wrestling is controlling your opponent and pinning them to the mat. Some top wrestling techniques include Riding, Breakdowns and Pinning Combinations. Some pinning combinations include the Half-Nelson, Bar Arm, Cradle and Turk.


Bottom Wrestling

  • Bottom Wrestling is attempting to avoid being pinned and attempting to return to a neutral position. Some Bottom wrestling techniques are the Sit Out, Quad-Pod and Scrambling.
