Freshly Squeezed is an independent record label and music publisher. Formed in 2005, they are based in Brighton, UK.[1] Freshly Squeezed’s compilation ‘White Mink: Black Cotton’ (2009) was credited by Mixmag as a 'landmark' the emergence of the Electro-swing genre.[2] The Independent stated in 2011 that the owner of Freshly Squeezed, Nick Hollywood, was: "nurturing electro-swing in Britain".[3]

Early History[edit]

After the retiring the 'seminal London club night' Club Montepulciano,[4]the long-running club that pioneered the lounge, cabaret and proto-burlesque scenes back in the ’90s.’[1] co-founder Nick Hollywood started the record label Freshly Squeezed.[5][6] Since then Freshly Squeezed has signed artists such as The Correspondents, Lemon, The Pinker Tones,[4][5] and released compilations containing tracks from genre leaders Caravan Palace and Parov Stellar.[4][7]

White Mink: Black Cotton (Compilation Series)[edit]

Shortly after forming, the independent record label Freshly Squeezed created and released a series of Electro Swing compilations named: White Mink: Black Cotton.[7] These compilations containing artists at pivotal points in their careers such as Kormac, Caravan Palace, Parov Stelar and Swing Republic.[7] Notably with Chinese Man, Parov Stelar and Caravan Palace featuring all at once on the first 'White Mink: Black Cotton' in 2009 at the height of their success.[8] After selling over 10,000 copies,[7] the series was named by Mixmag as "Electro Swing’s first landmark moment’[2] and the compilation also being mentioned in The Guardian: Club Pick of the Week.[5][9]
