Fritz Böhm

Fritz Böhm (born September 2, 1980 in Berlin, Germany, as Friedrich Böhm) is a German film producer,[1] director and screenwriter.

Career[edit]

From 2002 to 2006 Böhm studied film and television production and media economics at University of Television and Film Munich. During his studies he founded the Munich-based production company Toccata Film[2] where he produced several shorts, including the award-winning fantasy film Moonman (Mondmann) which he also directed and wrote, based on the 1966 eponymous picture-book by Tomi Ungerer.[3]

In the following years he produced the award-winning German language features Desperados On The Block (FIPRESCI Prize, European Award of the Critics, 2011; Cineuropa Award and Golden Olive Tree for Best Film at 11th European Cinema Festival Lecce, 2010[4][5]) and Tage die Bleiben (A Family Of Three) which won the Prix du Jury at the Festival of German Cinema in Nantes, 2011,[6] the Audience Award at Filmkunstmesse Leipzig 2011[7] and the NDR Newcomer Award at Filmfest Emden 2011.[7][8]

In the years 2008 to 2013 Böhm also worked in visual effects and served as post-production supervisor on a variety of mainly German feature films, including Krabat (Krabat and the Legend of the Satanic Mill) directed by Marco Kreuzpaintner, Männerherzen (Men In The City) and Männerherzen ... und die ganz ganz grosse Liebe (Men In The City 2), both directed by Simon Verhoeven, Friendship! directed by Markus Goller, Girl On A Bicycle directed by Jeremy Leven, and Morocco, directed by Caroline Link.

The upcoming American fantasy/horror film Wildling (2017) starring Bel Powley, Liv Tyler and Brad Dourif marks his feature debut as director.[9][10]

Personal life[edit]

Böhm is married to screenwriter Christine Lavaf and currently resides in Los Angeles.[11]

Awards[edit]

Böhm's film Moonman (2006) won the White Elephant for Best Children's Film at the Filmfest Munich in 2007[13] and the Grand Prize for Best Children's Film in the KidsEye section of the Rhode Island International Film Festival in 2007.[14] The film also scored Best Film, Best Director and Best Cinematography at the IFCT International Festival of Cinema & Technology 2008 in Los Angeles,[15] and was a finalist for the German 20th Century Fox Award in 2009.[15]
