Fulvio Bonavia

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Fulvio Bonavia is a multi-awarded photographer, known for his uniquely inventive imagery. Born in Italy in 1971, he began his career as a graphic designer and illustrator of film posters before devoting himself entirely to photography.

He has received wide acclaim for his work, with awards from institutions such as Photo District News in New York, Communication Arts, the International Photography Awards and the Prix de la Photographie in Paris. He has also won a special award as “Photographer of the Year” at the prestigious Mobius Awards in 2010 in the US.[1]

In addition to continuous artistic research, he regularly collaborates with magazines such as Vogue Gioiello,[2] Vogue Accessory,[3] Vogue Italia and Vanity Fair.

Haute couture with an unexpectedly edible edge inspired the subject matter of his first book, “A Matter of Taste” published by Hachette, Australia in 2008. The book was distributed in Australia, Brazil, France, Germany and Italy. This collection of work was extended in 2009 to include accessories by Chanel, Cartier and Christian Louboutin, thanks to a collaboration with Le Figaro, which dedicated the cover of its special edition to his work. In the same year, his photography was exhibited at Le Bon Marché in Paris to promote the French version of “A Matter of Taste”, entitled “Le goüt du luxe”.[4][5]

In 2010, he was invited to exhibit at The Landmark (Hong Kong), the city’s mecca of luxury. Here, he was featured on television and radio, as well as in magazines and local newspapers, including the South China Morning Post and the Hong Kong Economic Journal.

In 2011, the British magazine Garage Magazine commissioned him to create four images for its debut issue, along with contributions by Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Richard Prince, John Baldessari, Paul McCartney and Marina Abramovich. For this shoot, he chose not to focus on accessories, but rather to interpret whole looks by Prada, Alexander McQueen, Louis Vuitton and Moncler, working alongside renowned fashion editor Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert. The images created for this series were awarded at the Prix de la Photographie in Paris in 2012.

In 2012 Lewis Blackwell,[6] photo curator and founder of Creative Review magazine, included him in the book "Photowisdom Masters Photographers on Their Arts"[7] along with some of the most recognized photographers worldwide such as, to name a few, David La Chapelle, Albert Watson, Tim Walker, Stephen Shore, Mark Seliger, Elliot Erwitt and Chuck Close.

In 2016, Fulvio Bonavia won the “Fine Art Photographer of the Year" award at the International Photography Awards in Los Angeles.[8]
