Funso Aina

Funso Aina (born 1969) is a Nigerian journalist and corporate communications professional focusing on telecommunications and cultural diplomacy. He currently serves as Senior Manager, External Relations at MTN Nigeria.[1][2] Aina was a member of the Editorial Board of the Punch Newspapers and later deployed to Abuja Bureau where he covered Aso Rock Presidential Villa.[3]

Aina was born in Kano. He attended University of Ilorin where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1992 and obtained a Master’s degree in International Relations from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in 1998. He is an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR)[3][4]

Career[edit]

Aina started his journalism career in 1996 as a reporter with Independent Communications Network Limited (ICNL), publishers of PM News, The News and Tempo magazines and was promoted to the position of a Senior Reporter in 1997. He transferred to the Punch Newspapers as Senior Correspondent in 2000, and was appointed into the Editorial Board of the newspaper in 2003. Aina was promoted to Chief Correspondent and transferred to the newspaper’s Abuja bureau to cover Aso Rock Presidential Villa until 2005, when he left to join British Council as Communications Manager. He left the British Council in 2008 and joined the Vintage Press (publishers of the Nation Newspapers) as an Assistant Editor. Aina joined MTN Nigeria in January 2009 as External Communications Officer and was promoted to the position of Public Relations Manager in 2012.[5] In 2018, he was appointed Senior Manager, External Relations, MTN Nigeria.[6]
