The Furogu Shrine (Palace of Wind and Waves) is a shrine located in Okawa, Fukuoka Prefecture.[1] It has been traditionally served by the Azumi people. simple:Furogu Shrine
Overview[edit]
The origins of Shrine date back over 1,800 years[1] and it is linked to Empress Jingū.[2]The shrine is locally known as "Ofurosan".[1]
It has a major festival[3]
Ths shrine has a massive Shinboku Camphor tree on its premises[1] The tree itself is 1800 years old[4]
The current main shrine was rebuilt by Kamakura no Yoritomo, the lord of Yanagawa Castle during the Sengoku period, and the main shrine and stone five-story pagoda have been designated as Important Cultural Properties by the national government.[citation needed]
It has a seated wooden figure of the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy[4]
The current shrine was built in the 1560[4]

It is inscribed with the date of the 10th month of the 10th year of the Shohei Era. Designated on August 29, 1910.[citation needed]
