Fuse Games Ltd is a British independent video game developer based in Guildford, England. Founded in 2023 by a group of former leads from Criterion Games, the studio develops AAA titles for consoles and PC.[1] Its debut game, the racing title Star Wars: Galactic Racer, was announced in December 2025 and released in October 2026.[2][3]
History
Fuse Games was established in 2023 by a team of former senior developers from Criterion Games, the British studio behind the Burnout and Need for Speed series.[1] The studio is led by Matt Webster, a former Criterion general manager and Electronic Arts vice-president, who serves as its head. He was joined by a founding team of fellow Criterion alumni, including Steve Uphill (head of content), Pete Lake (head of production), Alan McDairmant (head of operations) and Andrei Shires (head of technology). Collectively, the team's credits include the Star Wars: Battlefront, Burnout and Need for Speed franchises.[1]
At its founding, the Guildford-based studio said it had received significant funding and had grown to 17 staff. It described its first project as a premium AAA title "fusing uncompromising attention to game-feel with blockbuster spectacle and player-centric innovations in social gameplay, self-expression, and creativity."[1][2] That game was later revealed to be Star Wars: Galactic Racer.[2]
Star Wars: Galactic Racer
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is the studio's debut game, a Star Wars–themed racing game announced on 12 December 2025. It was developed by Fuse Games and published by Lucasfilm Games alongside Secret Mode, and was released on 6 October 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.[2][3]
Set during the New Republic era, the game follows a new character named Shade, described by Webster as "a lone racer with a dream of glory and revenge," as he attempts to become an elite racing pilot and contends with his rival Kestar Bool. Players race various landspeeders and speeder bikes—including a new vehicle type called the skim speeder—across locations such as Jakku and Ando Prime, in both a solo campaign and multiplayer modes.[2] Alongside digital standard and deluxe editions, a physical collector's edition was offered at a suggested retail price of US$159.99.[3]
