Fusion 360 is a combined desktop and cloud CAD/CAM software from Autodesk. It combines Electronics CAD (schematic, SPICE circuit simulation and PCB layout), with 3D CAD modeling, 2D Drawing, Mesh, Additive and subtractive manufacturing (CAM) and cloud-based data management.[1]
Fusion 360's desktop software is the CAD, and performs the compute-intensive functions of the software that rely on local CPU and GPU horsepower, with user data operated on locally in a cache that is synchronized upon save to their cloud data and PDM storage. The cloud services of Fusion 360 allow sharing of designs for browser-based collaboration including download, viewing, annotation and management of the designs individually and in teams.
The product was first launched free for makers, student and startups with the goal of testing and building out the concepts and infrastructure, and has since become a commercialized subscription based product with an API that allows third-party addons to be developed in C++ or Python.
Autodesk launched Electronics Design, based on the EAGLE_(program) engine, in Fusion 360 in February 2021, with the intent of making ECAD and MCAD collaboration more direct and also in recognition of the fact that most modern electrical engineers and inventors need mechanical and electronics design capabilities.
