Fyodor Laptev (Russian: Фёдор Лаптев; born 1992, Volgodonsk, Russia) is a Russian intersex human rights activist who held the first intersex picket in Russia.[1][2]
Early life
Fyodor Laptev was born in 1992 in Volgodonsk. As a teenager, Laptev was sent for a physical examination during which a geneticist discovered that he has Klinefelter syndrome.
Laptev states that medical staff told his mother “Your son has Klinefelter's syndrome. He's something like a boy and like a girl both – in general, something incomprehensible”.[1] Laptev was told “You will die fast! Well, you will live up to a maximum of 26–27 years”. As a result of such words, Laptev became psychologically traumatized and made several suicide attempts. During one such attempt, Laptev's life was saved by the founder of ARSI, Alexander Berezkin.[1]
Laptev is openly gay.
Activism
On October 26, 2016, the day of visibility of intersex people, Laptev held the first picket in Russia in support of intersex people in St. Petersburg.[2][3][4]
Laptev wrote to Putin making a request for a third gender marker in identity documents, but this was refused.[1]
