Guruappa Krishna Reddy (born 7 June 1939), known professionally as G. K. Reddy, is an Indian businessman and film producer who works primarily in the South Indian Film Industry. In addition to business, he has also worked as an actor in a few films. He is the founder of GK Granites. His debut production, Lawyer Bharathi Devi was released in 1987 in Telugu under the banner 'Sri Devi Kalachitra' and turned out to be a hit that ran for more than 100 days. He has since then continued to produce and appear in various Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada language films. He has won the Rajiv Gandhi Shiromani Award in 2004 for his remarkable contribution to the industrial field.

Career[edit]

Reddy is the producer of films including Idhu Unga Kudumbam (1989) and Prema Chadaragam (2004).[1] He made his debut with Raakshashi (2015), the Kannada remake of Pisaasu (2014) where he played the ghost's father, played by Radha Ravi in the original.[2][3] [1] He went on to star in A. Venkatesh's Nethraa (2019). Reddy previously collaborated with Venkatesh for Mahaprabhu (1996), which was co-produced by Reddy.[4] He played Radhika Kumaraswamy's father in Damayanthi.[5]

Personal life[edit]

His sons, Vikram Krishna and Vishal, daughter-in-law Sriya Reddy, and wife Janaki Devi all work in the film industry.[6][2][7]

Awards[edit]

He has won the Rajiv Gandhi Shiromani Award in 2004 for his remarkable contribution in the field of cobblestones exports.

He won the first place in games like Javelin throw and Discus throw in the Seniors Sports Meet held by Chennai District Masters Athletic Association in 2017. He was awarded by popular film director Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi.[8]
