Gee Jay is the professional name of Gloria Johnson (born 12 August 1989). She is a singer from Nigeria.[1] [2]

Early life

Gee Jay was born in Apana, Etsako West Local Government Area, Edo State, and grew up in Minna, Niger State, Nigeria. Her parents are Mr. Johnson Alemoh and Mrs. Maria Johnson. She completed her primary and secondary education in Minna, Niger State.[3] After secondary school, she pursued a career in hair styling in Abuja. In 2010, she began her music career with the help of Nigerian singer Adebayo Adebisi, popularly known as TTY NONI. She released her first single, "Dab for me," which received positive reviews and was named the best new single of the year. In 2016, Gee Jay was featured by the popular duo P-Square on a song titled "Bank Alert Gospel".[4] [5] Released on 27 December of the same year, Gee Jay subsequently released other singles titled "Sweet Mama" and "Hakuna Matata (Zero Worries)."

Milestone in career

She is the creator of the P-Square Bank Alert gospel version.[6][7] The music went viral globally on Facebook and YouTube.[8] It subsequently received positive reviews from notable art critics via newspapers and Nigerian entertainment platforms like NotJustOk. Her gospel version of "Bank Alert" reached over 25,000 free downloads in one day from various Nigerian music platforms.[9] The freestyle video was uploaded to YouTube and Instagram.[10] One of the P-Square duo heard the gospel version of Bank Alert, which gained over 17 million views on social media. Gee Jay was honored for her innovation, which led P-Square to feature her on their "Bank Alert" Gospel version. She won Best Nigeria Music Covers 2016.[11][12]
