Ajuran Sultanate | Oromo Warriors |
The Gaal Madow wars were a series of armed military encounters between Ajuran Sultanate and invading Oromo Warriors, in the Horn of Africa.
Background[edit]
In the mid-17th century, the Oromo Nation began expanding from its homeland around Lake Abaya in southern Ethiopia towards the southern Somali coast at the time when the Ajuran was at the height of its power.[1][2]
The War[edit]
The Garen rulers of the Ajuran Empire carried out military conquests known as Gaal Madow Wars against the Oromo warriors, converting whoever was captured into Islam. The defeated Oromo had no option but to migrate elsewhere.
