Gabi Personal Insurance Agency, Inc. (branded Gabi) is an American online insurance brokerage that compares auto and home policies from more than 40 carriers and automates switching to cheaper coverage.[1] Founded in 2016, Gabi allows users to upload an existing declarations page or connect to their insurer’s portal; its software then scans coverages and continuously monitors for lower-priced, equivalent policies.[1]
History
Founding and early funding (2016–2020)
Gabi was launched in San Francisco in 2016 by entrepreneurs **Hanno Fichtner**, **Krzysztof Kujawa** and **Vincenz Klemm**.[2]
- **Seed (2017):** raised US$2.6 million led by SV Angel and A.Capital.[1]
- **Series A (2018):** secured US$9.5 million led by Canvas Ventures, with Correlation Ventures, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures and others participating.[3]
- **Series B (2020):** closed US$27 million led by Mubadala Capital, bringing disclosed funding to US$39.1 million.[4]
Acquisition by Experian (2021)
On 21 October 2021 credit-reporting firm Experian agreed to buy Gabi for **US$320 million**, integrating the startup into its Experian Insurance Services unit.[5][6] Experian said the deal expanded its presence in the auto-insurance marketplace and would leverage Gabi’s comparison engine across Experian’s 30-million-member consumer platform.[7]
Products and business model
Gabi is a licensed insurance agency rather than a lead-generation site.[4]
- **Quote comparison:** Users connect an existing policy; Gabi matches coverage levels and returns real-time quotes from national and regional carriers.
- **Policy switching:** When a lower price is found, Gabi completes the purchase online and cancels the old policy on the customer’s behalf.[1]
- **Continuous monitoring:** The platform monitors renewal dates and automatically notifies customers of better offers, generating recurring commission revenue on retained policies.[4]
As of 2023 Gabi worked with more than 40 carriers, including Progressive, Travelers and Safeco, and claimed average annual savings of US$800 per customer.[8]
