Gabriel Billington (born 17 December 2004) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender or midfielder for League Two club Exeter City. He played on loan at Poole Town and Plymouth Parkway during the 2022–23 season and turned professional at Exeter in March 2023.
Career[edit]
Billington began a two-year scholarship with Exeter City in August 2021.[2] He played in defence for the under-18s in the EFL Youth Alliance and FA Youth Cup.[2] He played on the losing side of the Devon St Luke's Bowl final in May 2022.[2] He made his senior debut for Exeter City on 4 October 2022, after coming on as a 61st-minute substitute for Alex Hartridge in a 2–1 win over Southampton U21 at St James Park in the group stages of the EFL Trophy.[3] On 3 January 2023, he joined Southern League Premier Division South side Poole Town on a one-month work experience loan.[4][5] The loan was later extended to the end of the 2022–23 season.[6] However, his work experience loan was switched to Plymouth Parkway on 15 February.[2][7] He turned professional at Exeter in March 2023, and said that "my journey has been amazing, I was a young lad just signed from a tournament, and now I've worked my way up".[8]
Style of play[edit]
Billington can play in defence or midfield.[9] Exeter City Head of Coaching, Brad-Lee Miller, said that Billington "has excellent receiving skills and handles the ball well".[8] He is able to lead the transition from defence to attack.[10]
