Galatasaray Mobile or GS Mobile is a Turkish virtual cellular service provider owned by Galatasaray SK that uses the Avea GSM network for coverage. It operates under the slogan "one team, one heart, one network".
"Avea" is one of three GSM operators in Turkey. It was founded in 2004 through the merger of the GSM operators Aycell and Aria. Türk Telekom, Türkiye İş Bankası, and TIM are the primary shareholders. Currently, Türk Telekom owns 81% of Avea, and İş Bankası owns the remaining 19%. Its competitors, Turkcell and Vodafone Turkey, were founded in 1994 and use the GSM 900 frequency range, while Avea uses the GSM 1800 range.
Coverage area
Avea covers most of Turkey's land area with over 7,000 base stations. However, it does not offer services in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, where customers roam on Turkcell and Vodafone Turkey networks. Due to its origins as a merger of two networks, Avea has different roaming partners for customers with numbers beginning with 50 and 55.
Competitiveness
As the newest entrant in the Turkish GSM sector, Avea offers competitive pricing. Turkcell, the market leader, has responded by significantly lowering its call rates. Avea's current rates range from 0 to 0.35 Turkish liras per minute for national calls and 0.32 to 2.1 Turkish liras per minute for international calls. The SMS service costs between 0 and 0.06 Turkish liras per SMS for national messages and 0.21 Turkish liras for international ones.
