Galliano Ciliberti (Perugia, May 16, 1958) is an Italian musicologist. His interests include Italian medieval music, and Roman sacred music in the Baroque era (Antonio Maria Abbatini, Giuseppe Corsi, Alessandro Melani, and Vincenzo Ugolini).[1]

Life and career

He studied organ, piano and composition in Perugia. Great-grandson of Venanzio Gabriotti (1883-1944), anti-fascist and Gold Medal of Military Valour, he began his career as a journalist for the newspaper L'Unità (1980-1984).[2][3][4]

He is a professor of Music History at the Conservatory of Monopoli since 2002.[5] He graduated in Italian literature from the University of Perugia (1986) and obtained a Doctorate in Musicology "avec la plus grande distinction" from the University of Liège (1996) and a Post-Doctoral degree from the École pratique des hautes études in Paris (2012).[6] He was a research fellow at the Department of Musicological and Philological Paleographic Sciences of the University of Pavia, Cremona.[7]

He was the winner of the Bertini Calosso Award (1998-2000).[8] He collaborates as a musicologist in the biographic entries with Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani (DBI), The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart (MGG).
