Gamal Abdul Nasir Zakaria (born 1965) is an Indonesian writer and lecturer.

Early life[edit]

Zakaria was born in 1965 as the third son and four Children of Zakaria bin Muhammad Amin, an ulama, and his second wife, Siti Zainab binti Kimpal, a former actress.[1][2] Her brothers were Nashruddin Zakaria, Azra'ie Zakaria, Syakrani Zakaria, Zulkarnain Zakaria, and Nukman Zakaria; three of them are paternal half-siblings.[3] While her sisters were Aminah Zakaria, Zaharah Zakaria, Ulfah Zakaria, Hanim Zakaria, Rinie Yuslina Fairuz Zakaria, Rita Puspa Zakaria, Nida Suryani Zakaria, and Sri Purnama Zakaria; four of them are paternal half-siblings.[3] He completed his Doctor of Philosophy degree at National University of Malaysia in 1999.[4]

Zakaria is married to Salwa Mahalle, a lecturer, in Brunei Darussalam, on 13 March 2000.[5] The couple later moved to Brunei Darussalam and resided there.[5]

He is interested in youth and nation topics such as the importance of integrating information and communication technology on Islamic education, professionalism of teachers, and 21st century learning in education.[4]

Career[edit]

Zakaria began his career as a lecturer at Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education in Universiti Brunei Darussalam, concentrating on Islamic education and Arabic language, and later was appointed as Senior Assistant Professor.[4] He started his career as a writer by published several journals and books such as The Theory and Practice of Teacher Professional Development: An Islamic Perspective (2019) and Permisalan dalam Al-Quran (2019).[4]
