Ganapati Kalal
Ganapati Kalar (1920–1944) was an Indian independence activist from Maharashtra. He participated in the Quit India Movement and was involved in anti-British activities during the 1940s. He died in a police encounter in 1944 while resisting arrest by the British authorities.[1]
Early life
Ganapati Kalar was born in 1920 in Umred village, Nagpur district, Maharashtra.[1] He was employed in private service before joining the nationalist movement.[2]
Role in the Indian independence movement
Kalar actively participated in the Quit India Movement in Nagpur in August 1942.[1] He was also involved in other anti-British activities. In 1944, he was declared an absconder by the British police.[3] Later that year, he was surrounded by the British police and died in an encounter while attempting to evade arrest.[4]
Legacy
Ganapati Kalar is listed as a martyr in the official Dictionary of Martyrs: India's Freedom Struggle (1857–1947), published by the Government of India.[1]
