Ganesh Bala (born 11 December 1988) is a Malaysian music producer, composer, pianist and author.[1][2][3] Coming from a family of musicians, he studied piano at a young age and learned multiple instruments such as the tabla, sitar, guitar and drums. He has performed and collaborated with the likes of Sivamani, Steve Thornton, John Kaizan, Tompi, Ushera, Lewis Pragasam and Zahid Ahmad.[4] In 2019, he released his debut self-titled instrumental jazz fusion album Ganesh Bala where he merged contemporary jazz, classical Indian music and Malaysian music.[5][6]
Early life & education
Born in Kuala Lumpur, Ganesan Balakrishnan, more commonly known by his stage name, Ganesh Bala, had an early introduction to music and started learning music formally from a very young age. Although classically trained, his passion for jazz grew in university and inspired him to pursue a career as a jazz pianist.[7] He studied contemporary music at UCSI University, Kuala Lumpur.[8]

Publications
The Malayan Songbook
The Malayan Songbook, a collection of pre-independence (pre-1957) Malayan music scores transcribed and re-arranged by Ganesh Bala, was published by OUCH Music Academy.[16] [3][17] A selection of 21 contemporary Malay music scores by composers Ahmad Jaafar, Ahmad Wan Yet, Yusof B, P.Ramlee and some Malay folk tunes are in the songbook.[3][18] The book also includes studies, biographies and essays about the people behind the scenes that are from the Malayan music, art and entertainment sector.[19][20] Through audio restoration, the songs were transcribed and rearranged to be included in the songbook. It took 5 years of research and process to complete the book. [21][22]
