Gankanda Central College is a mixed educational school located in Pelmadulla, near Rathnapura, Sri Lanka. [1] It is a leading school in Sri Lanka.[according to whom?]
History[edit]
The school was opened by Sir D. B. Jayathilaka as a thatched house on 3 March 1929. The school was established by three brothers, Punchimahattaya Gankanda, Heenmahattaya Gankanda and Dingirimahattya Gankanda. It commenced with four teachers and forty students. The school became a National College after Dr. C. W. W. Kannangara introduced the concept in 1 January 1946.[2]
