Gaon Dastak.[1] is a Weekly Hindi Newspaper started in 2018 and online news website. It targets rural India, Indian politics and news of farmers and youth across the country. Gaon Dastak's editor is Mahendra Kudiya. The newspaper covers geographies that encompasses rural areas in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Bihar. In February, thousands of birds were dying due to the outbreak of bird flu in India, causing a rumor to spread rapidly on social media. The rumour claimed that birds were being killed due to Jio's 5G internet testing. Gaon Dastak reported this and stopped it with the support of ALT News of India for Fact Check.[4]
In India, the Twitter account of the people who raised their voice against the government for the peasant movement was shut by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs. Against this, the Gaon Dastak had run a hashtag, due to which all the closed accounts were restored by Twitter.[5]
