Garden Mania
Garden Mania is a weekly gardening programme on BBC Radio Newcastle and BBC Radio Tees presented by Marian Foster and gardening expert John Guy. The show airs Sunday mornings with gardening news, music, advice and a phone in.[1]
History[edit]
Marian Foster has presented and produced the programme for over 20 years. She has previously presented programmes such as Pebble Mill at One, Top Gear and gardening reports for BBC Look North. In October 2023, Garden Mania began broadcasting on BBC Radio Tees alongside its usual slot on BBC Radio Newcastle due to sharing of regional programming on BBC Local Radio.[2]
John Guy is a lecturer at Northumberland College, with over 35 years of experience. He has been involved in the programme alongside Marian for over 10 years.[3]
The duo often gives advice and talks at flower shows and garden events across the North East of England.[4]
Marian is often a compare and judge for Northumbria In Bloom.[5]
Awards[edit]
In 2017, Foster won a Garden Media Guild Award for her BBC Radio Newcastle broadcast documentary on English landscape gardener Capability Brown during Garden Mania.[6]
