Gardenscapes[edit]
Gardenscapes is the first game of the series and was released in late 2009 for Windows, Android (operating system) and iOS systems and has been described as a blend of hidden object, time management and simulation,[1] being distributed digitally as well as in retail in over 20 countries. It was ported for macOS in 2010 and a version for the Nintendo 3DS was released in 2012.
The game is based around the protagonist Austin the Butler, who inherits a run-down mansion estate from his grandfather, with the ultimate goal of restoring its garden through the sale of valuable junk from around the mansion. Being the first entry in the series, it introduces many reocurring elements of the games, mainly the protagonist, Austin, and the theme of reconstructing gardens through hidden object gameplay.
Gardenscapes nominated for "Most Addictive Game" in the GameHouse Great Game Awards on 2010.[2]
Gardenscapes: Mansion Makeover[edit]
Gardenscapes: Mansion Makeover was the second release of the series. The game shifted focus from the mansion's garden to its interior, namely the entrance hall, and added new features to the gameplay. The game has been defined by Gamezebo as "an incredibly solid and polished hidden object game that, while repetitive, offers a certain spark that just can’t be defined".[4]
Gardenscapes 2[edit]
Gardenscapes 2, a direct sequel, released in 2013 for both computers, Android and iOS. The game sees the protagonist's restoring his grandfather's garden from disrepair, with similar gameplay mechanics to past titles.[5]
Gardenscapes: New Acres[edit]
Gardenscapes: New Acres, usually marketed as simply Gardenscapes, is the most recent addition and the most popular entry of the Gardenscapes series, and released for mobile operating systems in 2016. It combines many elements from previous games, including garden and interior renovation, as well as shifting the genre to match-tree gameplay.
