Garrett Immel

Garrett Immel is an American special effects makeup artist and surf guitarist based in Los Angeles, CA, where he moved in 1985 at the age of 17 to begin working in the business. In the early 90s he worked for Alterian Inc. and would eventually meet Howard Berger on the set of Army Of Darkness, which resulted in a long career working together at KNB EFX Group.[1]
Immel's expertise in surf guitar combined with his passion for horror, monsters and makeup, led him to join Van Nuys, CA horror surf-garage band The Ghastly Ones, founded in 1996 by fellow special effects makeup master Norman Cabrera.[2][3] The band went on to record several important albums, tour Japan and England and influence several generations of horror surf enthusiasts to come.[4] As of 2023, Immel plays guitar with Oregon Music Hall Of Fame Inductees Satan's Pilgrims, and an authentic tribute to one of his favorite bands The Ventures, called Venturesmania.[5] He is also responsible for collaborating design on a new model of fuzz pedal produced by Surfy Industries, The Surfy Fuzz, which gives the player more tonal options by incorporating additional adjustment knobs such as "mass," "harmonics" and a switch that toggles between a "Japan" or "USA" setting .
