Gary Kamiya (born 1953) is an American journalist who co-founded Salon.com and now writes for Salon.com and the San Francisco Chronicle to which he contributes the Portals of the Past column.[1][1][2]
Kamiya studied English literature at the University of California, Berkeley, and has lived in San Francisco since 1971. He has written magazine articles on the history of the city, which he researched while working as a journalist and taxicab driver, and organises his own tours of the city. He has written three books, Cool Gray City of Love, [3]Spirits of San Francisco, and Shadow Knights: The Secret War Against Hitler.[4] [5] He was the executive editor of San Francisco Magazine.
Cool Gray City of Love was described by Publishers Weekly as "a fitting ode to an exceptional city".[6]
