He started listening to hip-hop at a young age; admiring artists such as Lil' Wayne, Mac Miller, Chris Webby, and Machine Gun Kelly. He began writing his own raps in 2009 at the age of 12. Musical career[edit]
Gatzby's Story[edit]
After years of secretly writing lyrics and putting together a list of songs, Gatzby reached out to his lifelong friend, Andrew Missey, who owned a DJ business at the time, entitled "AJDJ Music Service". They began producing songs in Andrew's bedroom with minimal studio equipment. 4 years later, Andrew opened up his own professional studio, appropriately naming it, "AJDJ Studios."
Since they started, Gatzby and Mizzy (Andrew Missey) have played shows in multiple states on the east coast and opened for artists such as Chris Webby, OnCue, Huey Mac, Cam Meekins and Futuristic.[2]
Mixtapes (2011-2015)[edit]
In 2011, Gatzby released a series of singles that were produced out of a makeshift studio. In 2012, A New Jersey local rapper, HaTeR, featured on a song entitled "Cold" which began to gain traction on social media platforms across the internet. In 2014, Gatzby's first mixtape entitled, "Enjoyable" was released on Datpiff. Its initial response was underwhelming due to the lack of a solid fan-base. Over time, the project began to gain momentum through constant promotion by the artist and producers.
On July 31, 2015, Gatzby released a more successful project entitled "1920" which infused Jazz, Rock, and R&B into the Hip-Hop genre. Along with the mixtape came a music video, as well as pre-release listening celebration.[3]
E.X.P.E.C.T. and ANXT (2017)[edit]
In 2017, Gatzby released his debut album, "ANXT", and a single entitled "E.X.P.E.C.T.", which was the precursor to the album. The album portrays a look into the mindset of someone with anxiety and depression, and contains songs that fit into a multitude of genre categories such as rap, rock, metal, emo, and blues.
"ANXT" was released on March 27, 2017 on music platforms such as Apple Music and Spotfiy. [4]
Grey Sun and American Trash (2018-2019)[edit]
In 2018, Gatzby began work on an album entitled "Grey Sun" with producer Filipek, which includes features from Dylan Reese, Twisted Oak, and Chase Potter. Several songs off the album received radio play from a college radio station at Saint Joseph's University called Underground Powerhouse. Popular songs included "Home", "Iris", and "Polaroid". The album "Grey Sun" was released on February 15, 2019. [5]
In 2019, Gatzby surprised his fans shortly after the release of "Grey Sun" with word of releasing another album. He used social media posts and hidden text in images to reveal the title of the album, "American Trash".
"American Trash" was produced by Barbershop Studios in Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey. The recording and production of this album is believed to have occurred before the recording and production of "Grey Sun", the previous album.
"American Trash" was released on October 18, 2019. [6]
