Gavin David Bone was a scholar and poet most notable for his translations of Old English poetry. After reading English at St John's College, Oxford, he was appointed a tutor then fellow of the College.[1] His essays and poems were published posthumously in Anglo-Saxon Poetry (1943) and Beowulf (1945) following his death in 1942 from tuberculosis.
