Gayish Podcast is a weekly podcast about LGBTQIA+ stereotypes.

History[edit]

On April 2, 2017, the first episode "First Date" was released. On January 4, 2019, Dan Garlington (aka "Fucking Dan") was brought on to help with the 100th episode, joined the team as production assistant soon after, and was promoted to producer in May 2021. Mike's mother, Patty (aka "Ma Johnson"), is also a regular guest on the show - most often in the "Momsplaining" segments, where she tries to define LGBTQIA+ terms.[citation needed]

Format and structure[edit]

Full episodes are released weekly on Thursdays, ranging in length from around 55-90 minutes. Each episode focuses on a specific topic, with Mike and Kyle sharing both research and anectdotes from their own experience, often with guests. Episodes generally begin with a News segment hosted by Mike, followed by the main topic. Each episode ends with Mike and Kyle sharing their "gayest" and "straightest" things of the week, highlighting stereotypes of gay and straight people and how sometimes they apply, sometimes they don't, and usually they're ridiculous. Guests are also invited to share their "gayest" and "straightest" things, and a listener's submission is often included. They sign off each episode with the phrase "Be Butch, Be Fabulous, Be You!". Periodically, they release mini-episodes dubbed "Shrinkage".[citation needed]
