History[edit]
The Gameboy 64 (Codenamed 'sgbc64svb2') was a rerelease of Nintendo's Game Boy that was planned to come out in between the Game Boy Advance SP and the Game Boy Micro. It was quietly released in August of 2004. The exact date of release is currently unknown. Since its initial release and commercial failure, it soon was discontinued with only 2 games exclusive to this Handheld game console. The device was compatible with 100% of the Game Boy's library of games.
Games[edit]
The Gameboy 64 only had 2 exclusive games come out for it. Nintendo's lack of launch titles for this system can be explained by it being compatible with all original Game Boy games.
Released games:
- Pocket Hangman 64
- Teleroboxer: Final Fight
'64-Bit'[edit]
The Gameboy 64 claimed in all commercial marketing to be '64-Bit'. In reality there were 4 separate 16-bit processing units that could be used at once during games to further performance, visual effects, better sound quality and better graphics.
Common Misinformation[edit]
There are many rumours around the Gameboy 64 that are simply not true.
Rumours[edit]
- 'The Gameboy 64 was a portable Nintendo 64'
- 'It was never commercially released''
Debunks[edit]
- The Gameboy 64 is simply not related to the Nintendo 64.
- The Gameboy 64 was only released in Japan for a short time, most stores who were going to purchase units decided to wait until the system had more exclusive games. Allegedly, stores that did buy it were only rationed a small amount of units.
